This is where I’m supposed to tell you that I’m an editor and director who has won a couple of awards. That seems a bit self-indulgent so instead, I’ll tell you that I’m someone who really loves piecing the jigsaw puzzle of a story together.
My parents will tell you that I’ve always been a storyteller. It’s true - I’ve always loved a good yarn. Whether they’re big films, little films, silent films, foreign language films, animated films, the bits in between films or films about films … I love it all. Growing up, I either had a book or a camera in my hand. So when the careers advisor asked me what I wanted to do with my life (retirement was not an option) I said I wanted to be a film director. I mean, I watch enough of them, so why not make the damn things, right?!
And you know what? It’s been alright. I started as a camera operator which led me on some mad adventures. I shot a feature film in Portugal; travelled across India with a Bollywood film unit; blew s**t up with the Mythbusters … it was great.
Then I hurt myself and had to put the camera down. I got a desk job as an editor and soon realized that the edit suite is actually where all the magic happens.
